Stainless Steel Laundry Sink
For me, a stainless steel laundry sink has passed the test of time. I have had one in the kitchen or laundry room in every house we have ever lived in and never had any problems with them! They are tough, fit in with any decor, won’t chip, nick or crack.
Always look for a quality sink. Most manufactures offer two grades, one grade offers 18% chromium and 8% nickel, the other better grade offers 18% chromium and 10% nickel. The 10% nickel one will be less likely to rust and will last longer.
What to look for when choosing a quality stainless steel sink
- Investigate the thickness of the steel. This is measured in with “gauge” and the smaller the gauge number the thicker the steel.
- The best sinks are ranked 18-20 gauge whilst economy ones are around 24-22 gauge. The thicker the steel the tougher the sink.
- These quality sinks also have an insulation agent applied to their underside. Not only will this help to keep the temperature of the water constant and reduce clatter when the crockery is being washed up.
- The metal used for a quality sink will have a better shine.
Laundry Room and Kitchen Designers
Stainless steel laundry sinks come in a large variety of styles and designs. The choices are huge and if you are re-modelling your laundry room you will need to think about the positioning, size, shape and depth of the sink.
Maybe you would like advice from a Laundry Room or Kitchen professional designer or to ask advice from your local plumber.
A possible drawback to owning a stainless steel laundry sink.
When your sink arrives it will be spotlessly clean and wonderfully shiny. Overtime the steel will accumulate a pattern of faint scratches. This is quite natural and is called "developing a natural patina".
A balancing positive aspect
The great thing about stainless steel is that the mellow satin surface is compatible with any decor. Its neutral and practical silver finish will harmonize with any kitchen or laundry room color.
Cleaning Stainless Steel
To keep your stainless steel sink clean, after use, wipe it with a soft cloth dampened with some ordinary dish washing detergent, and rinse and dry the surface. If you want to get it shiny use something like Soft Soap made by Palm Olive or Simple Green. Some people swear by car polish or Brasso!
