SOLUTIONS FOR REMOVING COFFEE STAINS
Removing Coffee Stains.
A cup of coffee is an energizer and heart warmer!
Ane coffee AND cake even better!
But coffee is sometimes used to dye fabric and furniture to mimic aging.
This shows that a coffee stain needs to be treated quickly for a speedy disappearance.
In emergency and whenever possible, plunge the stain immediately into cold water to discourage it from setting.
General Advice for Removing Coffee Stains
- Before using any of the following methods for removal coffee stains, always read the washing/cleaning instructions on the fabric label.
- Remember to test the treatment on a small hidden section of the material and if in any doubt, seek independent professional advice .
- Check colour fastness and dye stability before treatments
- Avoid using enzyme-based detergents and stain removers on wool and silk fabrics.
- Never put a stained article into a hot wash or use hot dryer on it, as the stain will set making it extremely difficult to remove.
- Remember never to use bar soaps on tannin stains as they can react with the stain and set it permanently.
- The sooner you treat the stain, the easier it will come out.
Removing Coffee Stains on Clothes
- If you do have borax, dissolve a little of it in the cold water and soak the stain in this mixture.
- If the stain is stubborn, smother it with hand wash liquid or Vanish. Massage the soap into the stain and rinse. If the stain remains use the soap again and if the fabric is not fragile then use an old toothbrush or soft nail brush to give the stain a gentle scrub.
OR
- If you have a bottle of soda water, dab the stain with a cloth moistened with the soda water and blot the resulting liquid off with an absorbent cloth or kitchen roll.
- Now after all the above treatments, wash the article using the hottest water suitable to the fabric.
- Use biological washing powder in the machine.
Removing Coffee Stains from Upholstery
- If coffee is spilt onto the upholstery, soak up as much of the liquid as possible with absorbent kitchen towel or a clean cloth.
- Try to place a padded, absorbent towel under the fabric.
- Do the dabbing and blotting as above with water or soda water until the stain comes out.
- Dab and blot using clear cool water until no more water comes out onto the cloth.
- Repeat as necessary.
- Dry using the natural heat in the room.
Removing Coffee Stains from a Carpet.
- Soak up as much of the liquid as possible with an absorbent kitchen towel or a clean cloth.
- Do the dabbing and blotting as above with soda water or clear cool water until the stain comes out.
- Rinse carefully with clear cool water using dabbin and blotting.
- Try to keep the carpet from getting too wet.
- If you get a water mark on the carpet, get a clean absorbent cloth, wet it and wring it out well and place it on the wet area. Stamp on the towel for a few seconds. Repeat this using a dry towel until no more water comes out.
- Allow the damp patch to dry out completely in the natural room heat.
