Act Quickly!
Do not allow spilt red or white wine to dry before the treatment is completed.
To stop the wine stain from spreading, mop up excess liquid and place an absorbent cloth under the stain before further treatment.

- Before using any of the following methods to remove the stain, always read the washing/cleaning instructions on the fabric label.
- Remember to test all treatments on a small hidden section of the material and if in any doubt, seek independent professional advice .
- Check colour fastness and dye stability before treatments.
- Avoid using enzyme-based detergents and stain removers on wool and silk fabrics.
- Never put a stained article into a hot wash or use hot dryer on it as the stain will set making it extremely difficult to remove.
- The sooner you treat the stain, the easier it will come out.
How to Remove Wine Stains from Laundry Items
- If the spill was white wine, throw salt onto the stain.
- If the wine was red use salt or pour a small amount of white wine onto the red wine stain. These two treatments may stop the stain being impregnated into the fabric.A red wine stain can stain purple if left to dry. Both treatments can be left on the stain for up to 30 minutes
- Sponge the mark, starting from the outer area of the stain and working towards the centre, with a warm solution of biological detergent.
- Rinse the laundry item with cold water and then wash as normal. If the article is white, use a bleach-containing biological detergent for the wash.

- Place an absorbent cloth under the stain if possible.
- Use a clean cloth or kitchen paper towels, dab the stain with soda water and then blot the soda water plus wine off with another clean cloth or paper towel.
- Carry on until the stain has gone and then wash the garment in a cool machine wash, using a biological washing liquid or powder.
- Do not tumble dry. This hot air will set the stain and make the stain more difficult to get out.
- If the stain remains try the next idea
- Check the garment for washing instructions and where possible and using cold water and laundry liquid or Vanish, smear the stain and wash and rinse it repeatedly.
- If the fabric is robust, gently scrub the soiled area using an old toothbrush or soft nail brush and rinse repeatedly as before.
- If the stain remains, put the article to soak for a few hours in cold water, to which a biological washing powder has been added.
- Place it into the washing machine on a cool wash cycle.
How to remove Wine Stains from Upholstery
Follow the same instructions as above. Rinse and blot off the fabric as best as you can and then allow to dry off in the natural heat of the room.
How to remove Wine Stains from the Carpet
- The preferred method to remove wine from carpets is to use soda water. Dab the stain with soda water and blot off as above. Repeat this until the stain fades and dies!
- Remove as much as the water as possible and then place a towel over the damp patch and stamp on it. Repeat this until no more wetness leaches into the towel.
- Allow the carpet to dry in the natural heat of the room.
