A Rat

In the countryside, these common Brown Rats usually live in fields and hedges and burrow underground to make their nests but but in the towns these rodents often live in sewers and like to make their nests in loose soil under sheds and outhouses.

The signs of these Household Pests

Dark ½ inch droppings and black body smears left along their regular runs to and from their feeding areas.

  • Straw, chewed paper and any types of fabric make good insulation material in which to protect their young.
  • They need to gnaw to keep their teeth in good shape. They can do a lot of damage by nibbling at wood-work, plastic items, pipes and even electric cabling, stripping the insulation.
  • These pests mostly eat at night, are a menace to the poultry breeders and love to munch on most human and animal food.
  • They are capable of spreading many diseases including Salmonella food poisoning and Weil’s disease and many nasty illnesses.

  • Remove loose piles of wood.
  • Tend neglected garden weed patches.
  • Declutter and organize the dumpy areas of the garden or yard.
  • Do not leave any food on the ground for the birds. Always use a bird table or specific bird feeding wire baskets.

Rat Control and Elimination

STORE ALL PEST CONTROL CHEMICALS WHERE CHILDREN CANNOT POSSIBLY REACH THEM.

  • It is possible to buy proprietary ready mixed poison bait from your local hardware stores.
  • Follow all the instructions exactly and with great care and keep children and pets away from the area.
  • These pests avoid new objects of it may take some time until the first tasting of the poisoned food is taken.
  • Usually the bait is laid near to the signs of infestation and replenished when taken until no more is eaten.
  • For persistent infestations, call your local Council Offices who will advise you of the action to take. They may send professional pest controllers who have access to stronger acting poisons.
