Its no wonder people have problems choosing a comfortable mattress that is just right in every way. There are so many different types and sizes on offer where some are referred to in medical-sounding terms like orthopaedic and posturepaedic, and others in manufactures jargon like continuous coil, open coil, pocket sprung and viscoelastic (memory) foam!

Continuous Coil
This means the springs are made from a single looped wire and that these springs move as one unit. This makes it suitable for a single size but not so good for a double as the springs are more likely to sag in time and cause accidental rolling into the middle!
Open Coil
This means the single springs are wired together so when pressure is applied on them, all the springs move together. This movement allows for good support to the body and if a double, it discourages the unconscious roll to the middle!
Pocket-Sprung
This means that each spring rests in its own fabric pocket and responds independently to the weight above it and this provides very good support for the body helps to avoid the roll to the middle!
Memory Foam
These types use either latex, polyurethane, or viscoelastic.
They are designed to mould to the body shape and to react to the bodys temperature. Many people and especially those with painful joints, find them very comfortable but others find them rather too warm in hot weather and a not quite as soft in the cold.
The foam conforms to suit the weight of the body, but for frail or very heavy people, it can make turning over and getting out of bed more difficult.
A Great and Comfortable Nights Sleep
- Having a comfortable mattress will help to give you a good night's sleep.
- Will firmness, softness, a traditional type or one made with memory foam be the choice for you?
- The best and only way to find out if the support and comfort is right is to test each one. Feel free to relax for at least ten minutes in the positions that you normally sleep in, and on any one you consider purchasing.
- Remember it will need to be flexible if you have an adjustable bed?
- Check your finances to plan your budget but also try to allow COMFORT to drive your decision.
