LOFT LADDERS EXPLAINED!

Custom Search
If you require loft ladders new
Here's help to choose the one for you.
Concertina, Two and Three-Way Fold,
Manual or powered, for when you get old.

They come with two handrails or none at all,
With carpet-covered treads to prevent a fall.

So please do your research before you buy
As safety's important when you climb up high.

Try to declutter and organize your loft in order provide a safe and easy access through the hatch and to your stored items.
Maybe you already have a ladder but do check that it is in good order.

In most cases, a retractable ladder, giving access to the loft, is allowed, but ONLY when the loft is used for storage.
If necessary, check with your local authority.

Buying a New Loft Ladder

1. The size of the present or planned loft access hatch.
2. The vertical clearance by the loft hatch space for ladder storage and head height.
3. The maximum safe weight the ladder is expected to carry.
4. The floor to loft floor height.

Spring Assisted and Electrically Powered Loft Stairs

Ladders come either in standard sizes or can be made to measure.
They are fixed either to the trap door or the joists and some have a counterbalance mechanism to assist with lowering and stowing.
Most ladders are SPRING ASSISTED to provide a smooth gliding action. Some ladders are electrically powered to give the user TOTAL CONTROL.

ALUMINIUM ladders are LIGHTWEIGHT and easy to use.
WOODEN ladders are considered more STYLISH and QUIETER TO OPERATE.

Types of Folding Loft Ladders

TWO SECTION FOLDING LADDER
These ladders are typically made of aluminium and are ideal for occasional loft access. They usually have metal rungs, rubber feet and one or two handrails and come with an aluminium pole.

THREE SECTION FOLDING LADDER:
These sliding ladders can be constructed from aluminium or timber. They require less storage space than the two section ones and are ideal for frequent loft access.

CONCERTINA:
It is worth considering this type of ladder if you have a limited access space or high ceilings. They are compact and will fit into most vertical openings. They are considered safe, sturdy and stable. Some can be power assisted and they come with carpeted treads for extra grip. Some have hand rails.

TELESCOPIC:
These ladders are completely housed in the loft opening taking up no loft space.
