LIVING ROOM MAKEOVERS

A great way to make to start transforming a living room is by changing the lighting. Most people benefit by allowing as much natural light as possible into their living room.
The room’s furniture should be arranged to make the most of good light.
Wall lights, table lights and standard lights will shine where you want and produce subtle shades.
Every room needs some background lighting.
Up-lighters will lift a mood and will produce a soft glow.
Dimmer switches can produce a bright light by day and a soothing one in the evening.
Before you start a makeover it is always a good idea to
declutter, organize
and
recycle
your unwanted items.
A Focal Point of the Room. A Fire Place
Do you have a fireplace?
If so, make sure the fire surround is clean, the fire alight or made up ready, the fire irons clean and in good repair and the coal bucket or wood basket full.
To add space and light to a room, it is traditional to hang a large mirror
mirror
over the fireplace. (Take care with a fire in the room).

Living Room Makeovers Curtains and Blinds
Another focal point may be a stunning view out of your window.
- Remember to wash or dry-clean curtains in your yearly Spring Clean.
- If you feel this is unnecessary, take the curtains down and give them a good shake and then hang them on the washing line in the sun. That will refresh them and rid them of dust.
- There are many different ways to hang curtains and also many different and beautiful fabrics.
- Curtains may be drawn in the evenings and on sunny days so are on show a lot of the time.
- Take time to choose well and then to hang them with great care. Make sure they are hung at the right height so when drawn they will keep the light out and the warmth or sometimes the cool air in.
- Make sure that the width of the fabric is right, not too full yet no too mean and make sure when drawn back the curtain hangs just how you want it to.
- You can buy all sorts of beautiful
window coverings
- If you are overlooked you may like net curtains. If you do have them and they are a white net, do keep them clean. Grey and drab curtains really bring down the whole tone of the room.
- If possible, use any curtains to frame the view.
Living Room Makeovers and Fabulous Carpets
If the carpet is looking a bit stained and dirty, hire a steam cleaner or get the professionals in and let them give it a good clean. If you need to buy a new carpet, consider different types of flooring, maybe wood or laminate which may be easier to keep clean and fresh.
Makeovers, Bookcases and Shelves
Most people store their books in the living room.
- Take all the books off the shelves.
- Clean the shelves. Clap two books together at a time to get rid of the dust, sort them as you go and only return the books you really, really want.
- Return these books in an organized way to show them off at their best.
- Make a feature of the bookshelves by using them to display ornaments as well.
- To add a feeling of space to the room leave some gaps in the shelves to show the wall.
Living Room Makeovers and Furniture
Look at your furniture with a critical eye.
- Will it look better if it has a good clean?
- Can you get new covers for the arm chairs?
- Could you sand an re-varnish the table, chairs and sideboard?
- Maybe you are looking for new furniture.
- Make sure it is well made to last.
It is said that the state of your inner self is reflected in the state of your home!!
