Lipstick in Laundry
lipstick stains
Leaving lipstick in laundry is a terrible bother as instead of a beautiful clean article you have to now treat it with a stain removal and wash it again. Don’t worry, here’s what to do.
Remember always to do a spot test patch for the fabric just in case your treatment does any damage to the material.
Lipstick stains contain oil or wax based products and the stains can sometimes be difficult to remove. Here are lots of tried and tested ideas. Choose the one the one that suits you.
Lipstick stain removal treatments
Before treating, check the fabric washing instructions then dab one of the following stain removal products onto the lipstick stain. Massage the detergent into the stain and then wash the article in water as hot as the fabric will allow.
- Greased Lightning
- Clear dish wash detergent
- Dawn detergent. Rub the affected area with Dawn dish soap, soaking it HOT water, washing and repeating as needed. I had an entire stick of dark red glitter lipstick go through the washer AND dryer with a load of designer jeans. It worked!
- Denatured alcohol
- WD40
- Murphy’s Oil Soap
- Calnorth
- Dry cleaning fluid
- Hairspray
- Try washing the items with 1 cup powdered dishwasher detergent and 1 cup powdered laundry detergent. It even works on stuff that's already been dried. I accidently washed a whole load of khakis with a tube of pink lipstick, and this took it out completely!
- Take a bottle of Resolve Carpet cleaner spray and saturate each mark on the clothing. Rewash, don't dry yet, check for stubborn stains again. If needed, saturate marks and wash a 2nd
time for stubborn marks.
I do hope you were successful!
