• Poor quality hide requires more treatment which in turn results in a more artificial and firmer end product while good quality hide is softer and has a more luxurious feel about it.
• You may also find furniture covered with something called ‘reconstituted leather’. This leather has been produced by a method whereby leather pieces, known as shavings, are bonded together to make usable sheets of hide.

When you receive your furniture, check the instructions for cleaning. Should you have a spill or accident marking the leather, you will be well informed of the correct action to take. Your manufacturer may suggest some specialist cleaning products and being well informed you can have it at the ready.

• If your furniture is lightly used, you can keep it clean with regular dusting with a soft, clean cloth.
• From time to time you can moisten the cloth with warm water containing a little glycerine. This will help to keep the leather soft.
• Do not use any strong detergents and never dry leather with artificial heat or direct sunlight as the leather may dry and crack.
• The suggested method of cleaning for after heavier use, is to use a vacuum cleaner with a brush head attachment and clean carefully over the top and down the sides of cushions being very careful not to damage the skin.
• Should you spill something onto the leather, act immediately. Do not rub but blot up any liquid and gently clean the area using a soft cloth dampened in slightly mild soapy water.
• Should you be unfortunate enough to have a stain that you cannot remove, even with the specialist cleaning product you will need to contact a professional leather repairer who, no doubt, will be able to somehow do an almost invisible repair!
