laundry ideas and web pages

First it was known as the scullery and then this room was amalgamated into the kitchen.
Today the kitchen is often the room where friends and family gather.
Ideally the varous appliances associated with the laundry should be situated in a separate utility room.

A need arose for a utility or laundry room. It was needed as a hideaway where the ironing could pile up out of sight, the dogs and cats could have their bowls on the floor and the whirling of the washing machines and dryers remained out of site and hearing range.
The friendly chatter in the kitchen could now continue undistrubed.

A typical laundry room consists of

  • the plumbing for the washing machine
  • a sink for hand washing or pre-washing soaking
  • a vent for the dryer.
  • a place for ironing and a place to store the ironing board
  • a table to sort and fold the washing
  • storage shelves, cupboards or cabinets to store the detergents, cleaning items and all sorts.
  • The addition of a boiler will make the room a perfect place for drying the clothes during the cold and damp seasons.

You may be lucky enough to have your laundry space as a separate room in the house or it may just be an area tucked behind the door in the kitchen or bathroom.
Everyone needs somewhere to sort and iron laundry, somewhere to soak and wash the clothes and cabinets or shelves to store the detergents and other necessary items.

The information in the following web pages will help you organize your laundry needs.
