Laundry ClothesLine

When the weather is dry it is great to hang clothes outside on the laundry clothesline. If the weather is wet, the next best is to hang it on the line lift or Pulleymaid clothes airer in the laundry room.
Strangely, some people see laundry on a line as an ugly flag of poverty and yet, a beautiful line of clean clothes, hung in an orderly fashion, is a piece of art!
Laundry Line Lift and Rotary Dryers
Some homes carry a restrictive covenant whereby the householder must agree not to hang-out washing on the laundry clothesline. Other covenants state that you can hang out your washing but only if it cannot be seen by the neighbours. This is very unfortunate.

If your home carries these restrictions it is still possible to hang out washing if it is hidden from the neighbours by using a canopy over a rotary fold away clothes dryer or a by a tall fence or hedge.
The best kind of laundry clothesline is thin rope covered in plastic. It will last for many years and is easy to keep clean with the wipe of a damp cloth. Plastic pegs or pins are great as they are cheap, easy to use and simple to keep clean.
What people have said when their washing is able to dry outside:-

Photo Salvatore Vuona
- It smells fresh.
- Saves energy and reduces my carbon footprint
- Saves money by not using the tumble dryer
- Saves money as the clothes dryer heats the house up making the AC to work harder to cool the house down!
- Makes for an old fashioned homely atmosphere
- The sunshine makes my whites, whiter.
- Clothes last longer as the lint remains in the fabric not in the dryer!
- Sunshine and wind are free!
- Sunlight acts as a bug killer
- Hanging clothes in the garden is a calming, gentle experience where you may have a chance to dream and even chat to the neighbours.
- The clothes left on the line won’t crease and wrinkle if left for hours, whilst for the clothes left tumbling it would be a fiasco!
- If the clothes feel stiff and the family want them soft, then toss them into the dryer for a few minutes and everyone will be happy!
- If the weather is very cold but dry, the clothes will still dry off and only need a much shorter drying time or tumble dry.
Pullymaid Clothes Airer
- If you are unable to hang your clothes outside to dry, the Pulleymaid Clothes Dryer is the next best thing.
- Although it has now regained its popularity, it was often seen in place over the agar in the kitchens of long ago.
- It consists of contraption containing a set of four rods suspended from a ceiling joist. These rods can be lowered to hang the washing over and raised out of the way whilst it is drying.
A great foolproof invention that has stood the test of time.
