Kill Ticks in the House

tick in hair

For your health and wellbeing it is vital to kill ticks in the house and the first thing to establish, is how they got in, in the first place.
There are several species of ticks but all go through the same four life stages, egg, larva, nymph and adult.
All ticks feed on blood.
Ticks can carry serious diseases, Lyme Disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever are the most well known and these can lead to serious health problems if left untreated.

Most ticks cannot complete their life cycle in colder climates but the most common tick, the Brown Dog Tick can complete its life cycle indoors.
This tick is tiny, red-brown in colour and when viewed from above is flattened and shaped like a tear drop.
It only takes a few ticks to be brought into the house and the infestation can grow very rapidly.
After thes ticks have engorged themselves with blood, the female drops to the ground and lays her eggs in a sheltered place which may be in a sofa, mattress, pet bedding or any little crack or crevice.

Pest Elimination for ticks and Pest Control for ticks

The infested house or kennel should be cleaned very thoroughly. All bedding and places of infestation should sprayed with a specific tick insecticide. Spraying may need to be done on a daily basis until no ticks are seen.
To check for ticks in the garden, get a clean white pillow case and drag it along the ground and the lawns, paying special attention to sheltered areas.
If vacuuming the house, place a clean bag into the vacuum cleaner before using. When all the vacuuming is completed, remove the bag and place the bag into a plastic transparent bag, tape it up well, and place it like this into the freezer. The cold will kill these bothersome pests.
All washing of infected materials should be done on the hottest wash appropriate for the fabric.
If a dog or another animal has brought these pests into the house, they too need to be sprayed with a recommended product available from a vet or pet shop.

Sometimes it is impossible for you to rid the house of an infestation and the only way to really kill ticks in the house is to employ the pest controllers or pest busters.
Remember, having an infestation of ticks in your home does not mean that you are a bad house keeper. It can happen to anyone who likes or has anything to do with animals.
