How to Keep my Shower Curtain Clean

In order to find out how to keep your shower curtain clean, we need to find out what can make it dirty.
It does seem odd that this curtain can get grubby when it is always being washed whilst the shower is being used.

Unfortunately, the hard water deposits build up on the shower curtain material and capture the soap scum.
This mix of deposits, scum, mildew and general dirt is often noticed congregating at the bottom of the curtain.

To avoid persistent build up of deposits, choose your new shower curtain with great care.

  • The length and the width of the shower curtain must be an adequate fit for the size of the shower stall. If the curtain is too long it cannot drip dry after the end of a shower. If the curtain stays damp, black or brown stains of mould can appear. Mould should not be allowed to accumulate. If it is seen on the shower curtain, it should be washed off or cleaned away as soon as possible. Inhaling the spores of this fungus is known to be detrimental to health.
  • The choice of the shower curtain fabric must suit the wishes and needs of the users. The easiest shower curtain to care for, may be a water-repellent polyester curtain.
  • The cleaning instructions for the shower curtains must be clearly displayed and should suit the homemakers washing facilities and appliances.
  • To encourage sensible care of the curtain, the colour and style should please the inhabitants of the home.

After you have finished in the shower, remember always to draw wide the shower curtain to allow it to dry as quickly as possible.

How to Keep my Shower Curtain Clean

  • Before buying your shower curtain, read the cleaning instructions.
  • The easier it is to wash the more likely it will be laundered frequently.
  • Is it machine washable? This is the quickest and easiest way to keep the curtain clean.
  • If the care instructions state that the shower curtain must be hand-washed, give this serious thought. To hand wash such a large item, it may be necessary to use the bath tub in order to launder it successfully. This takes much more time and energy and is likely to make a mess!.
  • Afer washing, most curtains should either be hung out in the fresh air or hung back up on the shower rail hooks to dry naturally.

Choose your shower curtain with care, wash it frequently and it should remain in a beautiful condition for a long time.
