First and foremost, these

Ground Beetles or Churchyard Beetles

are harmless to humans.

These bugs in the house are thought as rather beautiful by some people and awfully scary by others.
They are shiny, violet or black and scurry around.
The adults are one of the larger beetles and measure up to 1.inch in length.
Their home is in the garden but sometimes they may wander into the house by mistake.
Do return them where they belong and they will help to get rid of your garden pests.

Two Easy Ways to Catch these harmless household pests

Sweep them up gently with a dustpan and brush! Return the beasties to their home in the garden.
Find a glass tumbler and a piece of stiff card.
Invert the tumbler over the beetle.
Slide the card under the tumbler containing the captured beetle and release the insect into the garden.
Wash the tumbler in hot, soapy water.

If these insects become too troublesome

Should these bugs become bothersome or scary household pests, then go on a hunt for their place of entry into your house.
Block the entry holes.
If you have done this and there is no other solution, puff or spray some insecticidal dust around that area.

If you find one of these interesting or maybe scary bugs in your house, remember it is lost and does not want to be where it is. It wants to go into the garden. Do help this stranded creature!
