GARAGE CABINETS
If the garage cabinets do not have legs or castors then it is advisable to mount them off the floor. Not only will this protect them from accidental water damage but also the extra air currents will deter insects and rodents from creeping underneath and building their cosy homes.
Garage cabinets are either
Custom built, by a specialized firm, to suit your particular requirements.
Modular. These are pre-assembled or flat-packed and you choose the type and size to fit your garage plan. It may be
possible to take these with you when you move house.
Recycled kitchen cabinets can also be utilized!
Cabinets are manufactured from various materials
Plastic-- Usually economical but may not be as robust as other materials.
Metal-- Used to be prone to rust but modern power-coated finishes now resolve this problem.
Chipboard/Particleboard--Its strength depends on the thickness and quality of the board.
Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF)--A heavy, strong material with a smooth finish.
Plywood--A lightweight material requiring painting or varishing to maintain its condition.
GARAGE SHELVING
The strength of the chosen garage shelving must be appropriate to the weight it is expected to carry.
manufactured from metal, plastic or wood.
ready-made or more usually bought as self-assembly kits.
free-standing but check the stability.
on castors and fitted with bespoke, modular, plastic containers.
adjustable or fixed and screwed to the garage wall.
or attached to specifically designed grooved wall panels.
GARAGE RACKS and GARAGE PEGBOARDS
A traditional pegboard is a large board hung on the wall. The board is punctured with holes into which hooks are placed. Various tools and other items can be hung from these hooks.
Hardboard--The perforated holes tend to get worn in time.
Wooden--More durable than hardboard.
Metal--strong and durable and are supplied with metal locking pegboard hooks.
Plastic wall panels (as an alternative to the traditional pegboards) support specific wall storage accessories including tool holders, racks, shelves and baskets.
