The Flour Beetle is small (3-4mm)and browny-red coloured bug. It makes its home in warm buildings. Its caterpillar-like larvae feed on cereal debris and flour.
The Life Cycle of this small reddish-brown beetle
- There may be five generations of beetle produced in one year!
- The adult female beetle glues its eggs onto flour or the flour debris particles.
- The eggs hatch into yellowy-brown larvae.
- The larvae find their nourishment from the given material, causing damage and annoyance.
- The larvae are about 6mm long and are very active in their crawling.
- When they mature, a new adult beetle emerges.
- Male and female beetle mate, eggs are created and a new life cycle commences.
- This small reddish beetle can live for up to one year.

- Clear out all infected foods.
- Vacuum the corners and crevices of the larder.
- Clean the area really thoroughly using hot soapy water.
- Let the are dry before spraying the larder with a specific insecticide developed for this household pest.
