A Basic Understanding of CHI for Feng Shui Beginners.
Feng shui is based on the belief that energy meridians known as chi, pronounced chee, flow through our living spaces, and these invisible currents need to move freely through this space to give positive results. The belief is, that if these currents meet blockages such as clutter, too much or misplaced furniture, the chi flow will be impeded.
There are two types of chi, the positive energy flow, known as sheng chi and the negative flow when the currents are impeded, known as sha chi. One of the main aims of feng shui to is to arrange a space so the sheng chi can flow unimpeded and harmoniously, resulting in a calm environment that feels great to be in, is inviting to others, looks fantastic creating a personal oasis to enhance all the areas of your life.
A Basic Understanding of YIN and YANG for Feng Shui Beginners
Another major part in the practice of feng shui is appreciation of the belief that earth energies called yin and yang need to be balanced correctly to achieve the desired perfect harmony. According to Chinese philosophy, yin and yang are complementary opposites within a greater whole. Everything has both yin and yang aspects, which constantly interact, never existing in absolute stasis.
An example of balanced energy could be the soft light of the moon (yin energy) surrounded by the darkness of the night sky, (yang energy) or a ceiling beam creating a downward pressure, (yang) but being balanced by placing tall plants or stong upward lighting underneath the beam,(yin energy).
