Cellar Beetles, Black Beetles, Graveyard Beetles and many more are in the family of Darkling Beetles. When these beetles first hatch from the pupal stage, they will be a creamy white, then brown, and finally black.
IT IS A HARMLESS CREATURE
This type beetles is
- black in the adult stage,
- a big bug
- slow moving,
- usually about one inch long,
- may be found in a damp cellars,
- eats both fresh and decaying vegetation.
Two Easy Ways to Catch a Beetle
- Sweep it up gently with a dustpan and brush!
- Return the beastie to its home in the garden.
- Find a glass tumbler and a piece of stiff card.
- Invert the tumbler over the beetle.
- Slide the card under the tumbler containing the captured beetle and release the insect into the garden in a damp place.
- Wash the tumbler in hot, soapy water.

Tips if the Cellar, Black or Churchyard Beetle become too troublesome:
- Go on a hunt for their place of entry into your house.
- Block the entry holes.
- If you have done this and there is no other solution, puff or spray some insecticidal dust around that area.
