CARPET STAINS REMOVAL
Before attempting any of the following treatments for carpet stains removal from clothes, carpet or upholstery, please take time to read the all advice below.
Before using any of the following methods to remove a stain, always read the washing/cleaning instructions on the fabric label.
Remember to test any treatment on a small hidden section of the material and if in any doubt, seek independent professional advice.
Detergents and Carpet Stain Removal Products
- Detergents with strong colours will stain lightly coloured clothes.
- Check the colour fastness and dye stability of the fabric before treatments.
- Avoid using enzyme-based detergents and stain removers on wool and silk fabrics.
- Never put a stained article into a hot wash or use hot dryer on it, as the stain will set, making it extremely difficult to remove later.
- When treating stains, always start on the outer edges and work towards the centre.
The sooner you treat the stain, the easier it will come out.
Steps for your Carpet Stains Removal
- Do not rub or scrub a carpet stain. Try to keep spill on the surface of the pile.
- Using a spoon or palette knife, remove the solid debris and vacuum any obvious crumbs away.
- Using an absorbent cloth or tissue, soak any spilt liquid.
- Using a fine spray bottle, spray the immediate stained area with a little tepid water and then using an absorbent cloth or kitchen towel carefully blot the stained water away . Do not over-wet the area. If you have no spray bottle, just dab the area with damp cloth or small sponge and then blot.
- If the stain is stubborn, make a mix of one cup of tepid water and ¼ teaspoon of mild laundry detergent. (Only use a few drops as it is difficult to completely rinse detergent out of the carpet fibres.) Dab a little of this mixture onto the stain and leave for about 5 minutes and then rinse off as above.
- Leave the area as dry as possible by placing white kitchen towels over the damp patch and placing a colour-fast weight on top of the towels. Keep renewing the towels until no further wet patch appears. If you have a wet-vac, you may use this to remove any residual water from the carpet.
- Allow the carpet to dry in the natural air of the room and then vacuum the area to restore the pile.
- Should the underlay remain damp then re-soiling can occur as dust and dirt will be attracted to the area. These stains are not permanent and can be removed by using the above method again and being very careful to use as little water as necessary.
- If required use a "wet-vac" to extract any further liquid from below the surface area. To finish the job, use absorbent paper towelling as above. Keep the room well aired or use fans to assist the carpet drying.
