  • There are many, many thousands of this species in the world.
  • The majority of them have a beneficial impact on us as they eat other insects.
  • Unfortunately, some of these bugs can create serious pest problems in our homes as their larvae are capable of doing a lot of damage to fabrics, timber and foods. For example an infestation of woodworm in the timbers of a house or in furniture can cause £1000s of damage.
  • Some of the larger creatures in this species, when being handled, may pinch you with their mouth parts, but these bites are not considered a medical threat.
  • These fascinating insects can occasionally cause us a real nuisance and even frighten us just by their presence in our homes.




Life Cycle of these Household Pests

The adult female lays its eggs on suitable material to its species.
The eggs hatch into larvae. These larvae are known as woodworms.
The larvae find their nourishment from the given material, causing damage and annoyance.

Male and female bug mate, eggs are created and a new life cycle commences.
