Design your Bedroom
Think about your budget and using the colour wheel principle, consider your overall colour scheme.
Coldours can be used in two ways, either as background colour over a large area or as acent colours in small areas of accessories.
Background colours tend to be softer, paler shades whilst accent ones tend to be stronger and more vivid.
Make both a mental and a drawn plan of your new bedroom and then look in books, magazines and bedroom furniture outlet stores for good ideas.
Declutter and Organize your Bedroom
You will need to spend time sorting out all your clothes, books, linens, knick-knacks, ornaments, pictures and anything else.
Really have a good think about how you want this new room to look and then box up the things you no longer want or need and put them into storage.
If at the end of your makeover you regret putting any article into the box, you can retrieve it and then happily donate the rest of the items to charity.

- It is likely that you will wish to retain some of your furniture. Perhaps there are a few tired looking pieces that could be revamped with polish or paint. Maybe the carpet or rugs would look better with a good spring-clean or is there a sound wooden floor underneath the carpet? Would it look good sanded and polished?
- Do your bedroom walls need a new lick of paint? Pastel colours are often recommended as peaceful, restful colours and it is suggested that bedroom accessories, in brighter or accent colours, are useful to give a feeling of vitality to the bedroom.
- Plan your storage needs with care. Have enough storage for your clothes and whatever else you keep in the bedroom. Leave room to display flowers or things of beauty on your shelves.
- Look at the windows and curtains. Do they need cleaning or does your budget extend to new blinds or to different styles or colours of window covering?
Make you Bedroom your Sanctuary
- Always make the bed and tidy up in the morning.
- Display pictures or photos around the room that remind you of happy times past or to come.
- Get the lighting right, bright for reading in bed and subdued for romance.
- Make your new room a really special place for you.
- Leave the room sweet smelling, inviting and a joy to return to at all times.
So much to think about but it will surely be worth it when you can lounge in bed, look around the room and think how inventive and artistic you have been to remodel your bedroom with such taste, cleverness and beauty!
