BEDROOM COLOUR SCHEMES
Your choice of bedroom colour schemes is very personal and only you will know if you have got it right. Whatever colour you do choose, will probably remind you of past experiences.
There are a number of colours that are associated with decorative styles, like the burgundy stripes of the Regency Period and the browns of the Victorian Era.
Maybe you will choose an American Colonial Style with wooden panelling to show off primitive paintings and dried flower garlands or a modern style to suit a sparsely furnished room painted in elegant, creamy colours.
Choosing Bedroom Paint Colors for Bedroom Designs
When choosing colours when decorating the bedroom, the most important consideration is to be given to the natural light coming into the room. If the room is rather dark then you will want to use light colours or if it is a cold room then warm colours should be considered.
Look around your bedroom and maybe there will be something like the carpet or a chair that you want to keep in the room. This colour could be an idea for your basic colour from which you can build up your contrast and accent colours.
The romantic atmosphere in a bedroom can be enhanced in many ways.
Careful use of purple and red can remind people of love and passion. The colours could be seen in a wall hanging, a cushion, a throw or just to give a hint of the colour, place a vase of red flowers in the room!
Colour Wheeels and Decorative Styles

- Be patient and take your time to gather samples of colour, textures and patterns that take your fancy. It may be something simple like, a strand of wool, a cutting out of a magazine or colour taken from a picture hanging on the wall.
- Put each example, when possible, into a box.
- Keep gathering for as long as you need and then one day open the box and you should get a good idea of your chosen bedroom colour scheme.
- See what combinations work the best.
- If you are finding this difficult you might like to buy a decorator’s colour wheel.
- Look at the samples and colours in natural and artificial light.
- You will soon see the colours that work together and the ones that just don’t look right.
Simple and ultra-safe bedroom colours
If you are nervous and want to play safe, you could choose white for the ceiling and a pastille colour that takes its colour from one of your base colours. You could choose more adventurous accent colours on your accessories and maybe your curtains.
